T S Eliot comes to 1920s Whitstable in Kevin Davey’s exuberant and unconventional novel Playing Possum. The poet, who is in the middle of a personal and marital breakdown, spends a night in the Duke of Cumberland. Past and present intersect in a whirl of jazz and blues, labour protests and silent cinema. The novel was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize and was called ‘startlingly original’ (Times Literary Supplement) and a ‘playful postmodern escapade’ (The Guardian). Kevin will be accompanied by actress Marj Hogarth and musician Mick Lennon

Kevin Davey studied and taught at Kent University. He now lives in Whitstable.
