Allie Rogers discusses her two powerful and acclaimed novels that deal with childhood, adolescence, family and identity.

Little Gold is a  wonderfully moving and atmospheric novel, a brilliant portrayal of the pain and wonder of leaving behind childhood, beautifully evocative of a Brighton summer in the 1980s.  This is a book about survival, about the pluck and power of a singular child and the fundamental importance of friendship.

Tale of a Tooth is an extraordinary story of the bond between a mother and her son. Told in the voice of an intelligent, passionate and unusual child, Tale of a Tooth is an immersive and compelling look at the impact of domestic abuse on a vulnerable family unit.

Allie Rogers was born and raised in Brighton. Her writing draws on her memories of the Brighton of her childhood. Little Gold was longlisted for the Author’s Club Best First Novel Award in March 2018 and shortlisted for the 2018 Polari Prize.
